I’m Gurdeep Pandher!

Hello from Canada's North, not far from our side of Arctic Ocean!

My name is Gurdeep Pandher and I am from the Yukon. I developed a strong connection with nature since my childhood, as I was born and raised in open farmland. I felt drawn to move to the Yukon because of the wildlife, beautiful nature and open spaces. The large lake, mountains and rivers here in the Yukon are very unique, and I am lucky to call this place home.

I now perform and create Bhangra dances and videos as my full time work. I have built a strong connection with this dance form, and it means a lot to me. I am passionate about Bhangra because it allows me to bring joy to others lives and build cross-cultural bridges. This style of dance originated from Punjabi-Sikh farmers who used different aspects of farming to create a traditional dance form. This farming influenced dance celebrates the harvest and our relationship to the land. Dancing Bhangra allows me to cherish and bring attention to my heritage.

The most significant way I have been uplifting others over this last year has been through my dance videos in the Yukon. Since the start of the global pandemic, I have been posting videos online every day to try and spread hope and positivity. After watching my videos, frontline workers, including nurses, doctors, patients, and other essential employees, wrote that they had found joy through the videos I posted. This last year brought me to realize that my daily video uploads can positively impact others' lives.

I am connected to the Yukon through its incredibly beautiful and dense nature, large lakes and picturesque mountains.

In the future, I hope to continue to create videos for joy, hope and positivity and to continue teaching online workshops, as I very much enjoy sharing Bhangra with others. Now that the pandemic has began to feel over, I am hoping to do a Cross-Country Happiness Tour this Summer 2022 to bring joy across Canada's coast to coast to coast.

I first felt connected with polar exploration after visiting the Yukon. About 10 years ago, I decided to make cross-country road trips everywhere throughout Canada to further learn about the nation. During the road trip, I ended up coming to the Yukon and never left. I am connected to the Yukon through its incredibly beautiful and dense nature, large lakes and picturesque mountains.

People in Canada enjoy watching the videos set in the Northern, polar regions of this country. Through my daily uploads, those who watch my videos have the chance to see the beautiful snow and nature in the Yukon.

I am deeply inspired by the nature around me. The outdoors inspires me to create videos and connect with others. I would give this advice to others, to spend time outside and enjoy the nature around you.

In the future, I want to continue to showcase the beautiful environment of Northern Canada to the rest of the world. It is important to me to create these videos that display the dense forest, snow and lakes, and I hope that I will be able to continue this for the foreseeable future.

Overall, I would like to share from my experiences, I have learned that dance is more than just entertainment. I have found that dance can be a healing therapy, which can be used to reduce stress levels and calm anxieties in our lives. For this reason, it is important to stay active to maintain good mental health. I would like to encourage people to try and dance to be healthy, stay positive, promote inclusivity, and bring joy to the rest of the world.
