I’m Asmara Lehrmann!
My name is Asmara Lehrmann and I am a PhD student at the University of Alabama studying one of the sources of sea-level rise @GlacierThwaites, Antarctica, and the coastal impacts at Mobile Bay, AL. I do so by looking at beautiful foraminifera under the microscope!
I was raised by an Indonesian immigrant and an American geologist in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Both halves of my identity intersect in my research. My love for the environment, geology, and the people of Indonesia who are vulnerable to sea-level rise brought me to this field.
I am not the first one in my family to go to Antarctica. Some of my Indonesian cousins have been there as support for cruises. I hope to keep bringing Indonesian culture to the poles!
