I’m Justine Hudson!

Hi everyone! I’m Justine Hudson, a recent graduate from @umanitoba.

For my MSc degree, I studied stress in beluga whales and bowhead whales throughout the Canadian Arctic.

My favourite part of my MSc degree was going out into the field to collect beluga snot! I collected snot to measure cortisol, which is a stress-related hormone.

Growing up, I always loved nature but I didn’t always have access to it. It wasn’t until my early 20s that I really started to spend more time outdoors and learn about the plants and animals around me.

Nowadays, you can find me outside tending to my garden and bees or enjoying the outdoors in the beautiful province of Manitoba.

I don’t remember ever seeing a Black biologist or naturalist growing up so I’m extremely proud to be a #BlackAFinStem arctic biologist. And I hope that pages like @polarimpact inspire the next generation of BIPOC polar scientists.
