I’m Bea Recinos!

I’m Bea from El Salvador, about to finally submit my PhD thesis on large scale glacier modeling, implementing a calving parameterization in Open Global Glacier Model.

I took a big detour away from normal career expectations in my home country. I haven’t met so far another Salvadorean in this field.

But I’d like to start a club! I think any kid can reach wherever she/he wants to go. At least that's what my mom taught me. Thanks to her and my dad’s sacrifices I was able to study English, get scholarships, long story short, I’m now becoming the scientist I wanted to be.

Sadly I can't say the same for many girls from developing countries like mine where they don't have access to education. Regardless I still find hope in my story and the story of many of us out there even if some people still make it a bit harder for some.

PS for you to read: my friend Claudia and I were the only women and the only ones graduating from Physics BSci that year. And our diploma is even made from real pig skin … crazy .. Cheers!
