I’m Santiago Munevar!
My name is Santiago Munevar, a PhD student at the University of Virginia studying the sensitivity of ice streams to subglacial topography. I was born and raised in Colombia and have had the immense privilege to conduct field science in Antarctica.
Polar research has provided me with opportunities that were otherwise unattainable to international students, and connected me to wonderful people in the glaciology community that are determined to make a positive impact outside out of academia.
I hope that my work, and the work of everybody involved with Polar Impact, will benefit those communities bearing the disproportionate effects of climate change as a result of the socio-economic disparity that has always existed on a global scale.
